Belarus Will Sell 7m Tonnes of Potash in 2014
OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus plans to sell 7 million tonnes of potash fertilizers in 2014 at USD 300 per tonne, Vice Economy Minister Alexander Yaroshenko reported on Thursday.
According to previous reports, Belarus planned to export 5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers in 2014.
In July 2013 Russia's Uralkali would quit cooperation with Belaruskali and withdraw from the potash export cartel. Furthermore, Uralkali announced a change in its marketing policy, which is now based on the volume-over-price principle. As a result of the divorce, potash prices on the global market plunged from USD 400 to less than USD 300 per tonne and Belarus had trouble selling its potash to overseas customers.
In October Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Uralkali's volume-over-price policy had caused potash prices to fall to USD 230 per tonne.
