SFO Announces Agreement with RelayRides
OREANDA-NEWS. The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced an agreement with RelayRides to allow the business to operate legally at the Airport. This represents the first such agreement between at a major airport in the United States.
“We embrace innovative business models at SFO, but we also have an obligation to ensure the safety and consistency of our rental car and ground transportation options,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “RelayRides, which offers a forward-looking new concept, has clearly taken the leadership position as the first such company to establish an authorized service with SFO. We applaud their proactive approach, and for providing an example for others to follow.
”The agreement is timed perfectly for the busy holiday travel season, offering customers the ability to park for free while making their personal vehicle available for rental during their travels. SFO officials expect over 1.2 million travelers to pass through SFO during the Thanksgiving travel period.
“This agreement is a terrific win for RelayRides and SFO, and an even bigger win for travelers who will benefit from an enhanced travel experience (free parking on the way out, and less expensive, broader selection of rentals on the way in),” said Andre Haddad, CEO of RelayRides. “Our agreement with SFO sets a standard for how sharing economy companies and airports can work together, as well as a blueprint for how RelayRides plans to grow its business at airports across the country.”RelayRides, which is headquartered in San Francisco, began operations in 2010 and launched nationwide service in 2012.
