OMZ Special Steels Launches Accelerated Cooling Unit
OREANDA-NEWS. OMZ Special Steels, part of OMZ Group, put into operation an accelerated cooling system for its press shop.
The new system is designed for differential (selective) heat treatment of rolls used in metalworks. The equipment provides heat treatment of rolls made of different steel grades; the roll's diameter may vary from 900mm to 2,700mm with body length of 1,500-5,500mm. Roll body tempering is at 120 mm depth.
Unique valve rack separates water and air streams into 12 collectors. That allows the system to function in air, water or combined cooling modes. System can be controlled both manually and automatically.
“Installation of the accelerated cooling unit is the final stage in the full production line of back-up rolls for rolling mills”, OMZ Special Steels Director General Sergey Eroshkin announced. “The equipment guarantees the compliance of the rolls with the highest operation standards and gives us the access to new markets. Technological and constructional solutions used in the system allow our rolling mills to stand out among Russian and foreign analogues”.
The cooling equipment was fully designed, produced and assembled by OMZ Group divisions. IzhoraRemServis, part of OMZ Group, became the prime contractor for the project, successfully completed its first turnkey contract.
“It is the first time that our company completed an all around project of designing, producing, assembling, testing and calibrating equipment”, IzhoraRemServis Director General Dmitry Romanov declared. “The successful result we achieved expands our opportunities, gives us more competitive advantages and imbues us with great optimism for the future”.
OMZ Special Steels managed to save over 50% of the equipment market price by assigning the project to its inner structures.
