OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2013. The State Strategy of Regional Development up to 2020 that was adopted by the Government at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine absorbed the best experience of European models of similar strategies of regional development. This was started by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Anatoliy Maksyuta.

He also added that 80 participants have drafted the strategy of development; the document went through wide public debates and several stages of approval.

"The Government made a very important decision. Using the best examples of European experience, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade along with other participants (including central and local governments, associations, research institutions) prepared the Regional Development Strategy," Anatoliy Maksyuta said.

According to Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, during 6 months after the adoption of the Strategy the plan for implementation of the Strategy has to be developed.

"This will be a detailed document which will write out specific tasks as well as specific projects that will be implemented. And, actually, the strategy will be implemented in the plan," Anatoliy Maksyuta said.

According to him, the need for the adoption of the Strategy called with objective and subjective factors: external and internal factors change, posing new challenges and bringing new problems. Therefore, the previous strategy, designed to 2015, according to Anatoliy Maksyuta, has almost exhausted its relevance. Unlike the previous model, this time the document has overall strategy, goals, objectives, priorities and implementation plan is identified that to be consistent with regional strategies adopted or updated for the period up to 2020 too. This will ensure the effective horizontal and vertical coordination of central and local authorities in regional development.
