Ukraine, EU to Sign Statement on Extending EGNOS Coverage
OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2013. At its session the Government approved an order “On signing the Joint statement on cooperation in extending the EGNOS coverage to the territory of Ukraine between the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission”.
The draft order was readied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine targeting implementation of a series of commissions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in order to render Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine O. Vilkul an authority to sign the Joint statement with Vice-President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship A. Tajani concerning extending coverage of European geo-stationary navigation service (EGNOS, European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) to the territory of Ukraine.
Realization of the EGNOS project shall afford raising the level of safety of functioning of transport in Ukraine, in particular of air transport, and also facilitate reaching goals of the future Agreement on Common Aviation Area between Ukraine and the EU and its member-states.
The reason realization of EGNOS project started is concluded between Ukraine and the European Union Agreement on cooperation concerning civil global navigation satellite system.
Work on an issue of extending the EGNOS coverage to the territory of Ukraine is envisaged by the Plan of top-priority measures concerning integration of Ukraine to the European Union for 2013.
The draft document was approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with six concerned authorities – Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Finance Ministry, Infrastructure Ministry, Justice Ministry, State Aviation Service and State Space Agency of Ukraine.
