FPC Plans to Launch 1st Talgo Train at End of 2014
OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2013. Mikhail Akulov and Paul Chekalov, Deputy Managing Director of State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia
Federal Passenger Company and State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia have agreed to use innovative rolling stock produced by the Spanish company Patentes Talgo on services between the two capitals of Russia and Ukraine. The new trains are due to enter services on the Moscow - Kiev route in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The new rolling stock is designed for speeds of up to 200 kph and is equipped with a tilting mechanism for faster speeds on curves and pneumatic suspension. This not only makes for an improved performance and faster speeds en route, but also significantly improves passenger comfort.
According to Mikhael Akulov, the tasks facing the Federal Passenger Company and Ukrzaliznytsia in the short term include finalising the preparations for the infrastructure and the use of electric locomotives with two electrical current systems in order to avoid train downtime when changing the locomotive en route.
In order to improve the competitiveness and importance of the link, it is planned to develop convenient timetables which first and foremost focus on reducing travel time by not only improving train timetables, but also by optimising the customs and border procedures, including on board passenger checks and controls when the train is in motion.
The Russian and Ukrainian government authorities which carry out border and customs control at border crossings were therefore invited to participate in the meeting. Work with these government bodies will continue.
On the territory of the Russia, the train will make just a single stop in Bryansk.
