Special Customs Control while Crossing Romania to Be Introduced
OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2013. The ANAF informed that the special measures that were to enter into force on 15 November had been temporarily suspended and would re-enter into force starting from 1 December.
The execution of the above-mentioned order was provisionally postponed, in order “to ensure a high level of safety and comfort of citizens who have in their personal luggage certain categories of goods exempted from any taxes or restrictions.”.
In this context, the Romanian General Directorate of Customs will ensure the adjusting of the administrative capacity to the specific features of each customs bureau, according to types of travellers and goods. The Romanian customs set new administrative rules meant both “to prevent and combat the customs and tax evasions on a string of goods with high fiscal risk and to protect the consumers’ health in case of food products”.
The entry forms in Romania the Moldovan citizens had to fill in were suspended just one day after their creation, on 15 November. The new rules caused long queues while crossing the border. Travellers had to lose hours in order to go through the customs control.
Starting from 1 December, special instructions on carrying out customs control for the following categories of goods: tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, fuel, flowers and decorative plants, sunflower oil, processed sugar, flour, bran, fresh fruits and vegetables are enforced at the EU foreign borders, where the customs control is carried out by Romania (Serbia, Ukraine and Moldova).
