OREANDA-NEWS. Flughafen Zurich AG, the owner and operator of Zurich Airport, was awarded with the concession for the extension and operation of Confins International Airport in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The private consortium with the Brazilian Companhia de Concessoes Rodoviarias (CCR), Flughafen Munchen GmbH and Flughafen Zurich AG, in which Flughafen Zurich AG participates with 24 percent, has been awarded with the concession for the International Airport of Confins in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The private consortium will hold 51 percent of the local airport company whereas 49 percent remain with the state-owned and former operator Infraero.

Confins Airport - Tancredo Neves International Airport - in Belo Horizonte was tendered out together with Galeao Airport in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) at the beginning of this year. The airport handled 11 million passengers in 2012 and is positioning itself to become a major domestic hub. In addition to the equity commitment of 65 million Swiss Francs, which are mainly spread over the first twelve concession years, Flughafen Zurich AG will render management services and nominate key personnel based on a comprehensive Operation and Management Services Agreement (OMSA). The signing of the concession agreement for 30 years is scheduled for March 2014.

International Activities of Zurich Airport

Currently, Flughafen Zurich AG is engaged in ten airports worldwide. In addition to Bengaluru International Airport in India, the airport operator is actively involved in nine airports in Latin America, including Bogota, Curacao, three Chilean and four Honduran airports. Flughafen Zurich AG's strategy focuses on management contracts in collaboration with strong local partners in emerging markets such as South and Central America, Eastern Europe, Central Asia or South East Asia.
