OREANDA-NEWS. November 22, 2013. Earlier, Asia Risk published the winners of the Asia Risk Awards 2013 for risk management and derivatives expertise. ICBC beats off stiff competition to win "House of the Year, China" for the Bank's excellence in pricing of derivatives and competitive derivatives service. ICBC is the only bank from Mainland China to win the award.

Asia Risk also covered a full story on ICBC's team of quantitative analysts, new   derivatives pricing system developed by ICBC (first such system in China), different types of derivatives for trading and fast growth in turnover.

Commenting on the award to ICBC, Asia Risk said "ICBC has a diversified product line, covering interest rate, exchange rate, commodity and credit asset classes. The bank is not only the largest market-maker of bonds and RMB interest rate derivatives, but also the largest market-maker of RMB forex transactions in the interbank market. Over the past 12 months the implementation of a new in-house derivatives pricing system developed to support the growth of its derivative business has led to a significant increase in volumes traded and in products offered. In 2012, ICBC's foreign exchange trading volume reached USD 52 billion, representing an increase of 52% compared with the previous year. The bank has also increased its range of foreign exchange products and engaged in foreign exchange trading in emerging markets, including Thai baht, Philippine peso and South African rand".

An ICBC official said, in recent years ICBC has used its in-house derivatives pricing system to develop China's first system for pricing of derivatives with functions for portfolio management, independent price valuation and risk calculation, covering all interest rates derivatives, exchange rate derivatives. ICBC can now independently calculate mark-to-market valuations and measure the market risk of outstanding exposure on all its derivative transactions.
