Norilsk Nickel Awards Winners of Social Responsibility Contest
OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2013. Representatives of 62 non-government organizations from Norilsk received grants for implementation of social projects in the city from Norilsk Nickel. In total, 186 organization took part in Our Future – Our Responsibility contest.
The grants awarding ceremony, was attended by first Deputy Governor of Krasnoyarsk Region – Victor Tomenko and the Head of Norilsk – Oleg Kurilov. Victor Tomenko said that ‘Norilsk Nickel is one of the leading industrial companies in a number of areas, including CSR issues. The idea of holding such contest and the way it was all implemented to me seems like the right thing to do. Norilsk residents possess an enormous creative potential, as well as willingness to work in public socio-cultural sphere’.
Projects from various fields were submitted for the contest, including: sports, charity, education, ecology, urban amenities, preservation of cultural heritage etc.
One of the winners was ‘Mama, come in! Come in!’ project, submitted by Dudinka School No.1. The project proposes to make use of the modern technologies to enable better communication between the parents and teachers for families leading nomadic lifestyle in order to ensure they can control their children’s academic performance. One of winning projects was submitted by Norilsk Charity Center. The project aims to create a citywide service offering help to people coping with difficult life situations.
Winners received grans ranging between 200 thousand and 1.2 million Rubles towards implementation of their projects, depending on the specific category. All projects shall be implemented by the end of 2014.
Our Future – Our Responsibility contest is held by Norilsk Nickel for the first time and is a pilot project carried out in Norilsk and Taimyr Dolgano-Nenetsk District.
