OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, started filtering out SMS with alphanumeric and short codes sender IDs from other operator networks. This measure will help protect Tele2 clients from unwanted and junk SMS.

Starting from 11 November, Tele2 filters out unsolicited SMS with short numbers. The company blocks messages coming from senders are not Tele2 partners or SMS aggregators that have not signed a relevant agreement with Tele2. This measure will allow the operator routing all traffic into its systems thereby filtering out all sent messages and protecting subscribers’ privacy.

Tele2 Russia has already signed agreements with certain SMS aggregators which account for over 90% of all authorized distributions (bank account and taxi arrivals notifications etc.).

To guarantee a swift switch to a more sophisticated system and protect the clients’ interests, the company has informed all partners of a change in regulations.

Tele2 is planning to develop filtering system to protect its clients against SMS spam by setting up filters based on customer preferences. The operator’s clients may use the Black List service which gives them an opportunity to get rid of unwanted calls, annoying SMS and advertising messages. Subscribers may include unwanted short numbers into the list (7777) as well as sender names (BonusTaxi) and DEF numbers. More information on the Black List service and terms of subscription on spb.tele2.ru/services_black_list.html.

Tele2 is also planning to launch the White List service, which will help clients draw up a list of useful senders. Those senders who are not on the list will be filtered out.

Besides, Tele2 will launch a useful option for the clients who do not want to plunge into details of black and white lists settings. The operator will compile a single sender register in compliance with Tele2 most rigid requirements. By loading this list, the user will receive messages coming from authorized senders, all other SMS with alphanumeric sender IDs will be blocked.

Pavel Chunikhin, Tele2 Russia Product Director:
“On average, each Tele2 subscribers receives at least 15 SMS per month from outer networks. They include not only welcomed messages such as bank account notifications but also unsolicited SMS spam. The Tele2 main task is to protect subscribers against junk messages and provide them with an opportunity to adjust settings of incoming traffic. Tele2 subscribers have a right to decide what exactly should be considered as spam”.
