Ukraine, IMF to Find Compromise on Deficit of Naftogaz
OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2013. Negotiations of Ukraine with the IMF to resume cooperation are ongoing; we search for the optimal model to address the issue of the deficit of the National Joint Stock Company "Naftogaz of Ukraine". This was announced by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko at a briefing in the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"According to the IMF’s demands to raise gas tariffs for households, we are rebuilding a model that will enable us, without affecting vulnerable populations, and show that we reduce the deficit of Naftogaz," Yuriy Boyko said.
He noted that an important step in this direction is the measures implemented by Ukraine under its membership in the Energy Community, in particular - the opening of the gas market for private companies.
"In this way we have reduced the purchase of gas as a state in the face of Naftogaz of Ukraine from Russian Gazprom under the contract that was signed by the previous government. Performing the task of the President, the purchase of gas has been decreased in 4 times. It is very important for us, because the more we will buy gas on this contract, the greater will be the loss of our economy," Yuriy Boyko said.
