Kroons Сan Be Exchanged for EUR in Swedbank and SEB until End of Year
OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2013. Kroons can be exchanged for euros in Swedbank and SEB cash handling outlets across Estonia until the end of 2013. From 2014 it will still be possible to exchange kroons for euros at Eesti Pank at the rate of 15.6466 with no service fee.
“People who live outside Tallinn and who want to change kroons for euros near to their home will be able to do so only in November and December. After December they will have to come to the museum of the central bank, though while people are here, they can also have a look at the exciting exhibitions in the museum”, said Rait Roosve, Head of the Cash and Infrastructure Department at Eesti Pank.
“People across Estonia have made good use of the chance to exchange kroons for euros, but the amounts of kroons being returned have got steadily smaller. It has been possible for people to make the exchange close to their homes for so long thanks to the cooperation of the commercial banks”, he added. In other euro area countries the commercial banks only exchanged the national currencies for two to six months.
From 2014 it will be possible to exchange kroons for euros at the central rate with no fee and in unlimited amounts at the Eesti Pank Museum in Tallinn. The Eesti Pank Museum is open from Tuesdays to Fridays 12-17 and on Saturdays at 11-16.
At the start of November there was a total of 49 million euros worth of Estonian kroons still unexchanged, with 42 million euros in banknotes and 7 million euros worth of coins. In 2011, 318 million euros worth of kroons were returned to Eesti Pank, in 2012 3.5 million euros worth, and in the first ten months of 2013 only 1.7 million.
