OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2013. Ukrainian sugar producer has already produced more than 570000 tons of sugar. Overall, this year's domestic supply in the amount of 2.2 million tons is fully sufficient for the needs of the Ukrainians.

However, in order to support sugar producer growing beet and sugar production to be balanced in Ukraine. In addition, the Government supports the differentiation of beet processing to biofuels and expanding foreign markets for sugar. This was started by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

"This year it is planned to produce over 1.3 million tons of sugar. In addition, there are still 890000 tons of transitional surpluses. And this is more than enough for the needs of the Ukrainians. Domestic consumption per year is about 1.8 million tons. At present sugar season is in full swing. In general, already 38 sugar factories are processing sweet root. They have produced more than 570000 tons of sugar," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said.

The Minister added that agrarians continue harvesting sugar beets. In general, sugar producer plan to process around 11 million tons of sugar beet this year.

"An important task in providing the domestic market with sugar of our own production is the considering of interests of producers. So, we are working on balancing the production of sugar and sugar beet production. In addition, the Government supports the differentiation of processing of sweet root, including biofuel production from beet molasses. This is also a very promising direction," the Minister said.

Mykola Prysyazhnyuk also added that it is necessary to develop export potential. And the Government continues to work on expanding foreign markets. Thus, in the previous marketing year Ukrainian sugar producer put abroad more than 134000 tons of sugar.
