OREANDA-NEWS. Students volunteering to be Energy Champions Jamshedpur: Club Enerji, Tata Power's nationwide energy and resource conservation movement, has always been steadfast in its commitment to spread the message of judicious use and conservation of energy and natural resources. Successfully establishing itself in a number of cities, Club Enerji has been swiftly expanding its network of schools in the country. Tata Power's Jojobera team conducted a special 'Diwali session' on energy wastage, water conservation, and the practice of moderate lifestyle choices for a greener way of living at VIG English School, Govindpur.

More than 200 students enthusiastically attended this session which covered greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon footprints created by our daily activity. Specially designed interactive presentations were utilised to explain how to track energy consumption and the impact of GHG emission on climate change. The students were also educated on the disruption in weather patterns, erratic rainfall, depletion of groundwater levels and temperature variations and its impact on common people. Club Enerji volunteers motivated the students to ask questions and awarded them prizes during the session.

Speaking on the initiative, DS Kudalkar, head, Jojobera station, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power has adopted several initiatives on the sustainability front and is taking great efforts to champion these causes that will affect not jut us, but our future generations as well. We aim to reach a wide audience like students, housewives, and community at large through our efforts. Through Club Enerji we are focusing on school students who have impressionable minds and hence will act as change agents in the society by influencing their parents, friends and neighbourhood.”

The session ended with a discussion on the measures that one can adopt at the individual and household level through which one can create a lesser impact on the environment, save energy and contribute towards sustainable development. A student mentioned the efforts of Tata Power to improve the water level of Govindpur through rain water harvesting at Ram Janaki Sarovar, which was applauded by all the attendees. Students and teachers filled special feedback forms which will be used to plan future Club Enerji activities.
