OREANDA-NEWS. The first consignment of international express mail from abroad was handled at the international postal exchange office of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. The first postal item was registered for the recipient from the Amur region.

23 September, 2013, by the joint order of the Federal Customs Service and the Ministry of Communications of Russia, International Postal Exchange Office (MMPO) of the airport was included into the official list of post offices within the Russian Federation territory. MMPO which opened at Novosibirsk airport became the fourth in the country built directly at the airport and specializing on EMS Russian Post (FSUE Russian Post affiliate) express mail processing.

Thanks to the rapid and well-coordinated interaction of Russian Post and theFederal Customs Service of Russia, a specialized platform for sorting and processing of incoming mail from abroad has been prepared at the airport cargo terminal in the shortest time. It covers an area of more than 2,000 m2. NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport provided MMPO with all necessary customs and conveyor equipment and organized workplaces. Investment of the airport in the creation of MMPO exceeded 1.5 mln USD.

For the operation of MMPO, the Siberian Customs Directorate of Federal Customs Service of Russiaestablished Customs clearance and Customs control department №2 as well as 24/7 work schedule, even regarding the expected load growth in the upcoming New Year's days.

The capacity of MMPO at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport allows handling of the growing volume of EMS items coming from China and South East Asia to recipients in the Siberian, Ural and Far Eastern Federal Districts. The distribution of the international express mail flow by geographical zones will optimize workload of the Moscow Air Hub and allow EMS Russian Post to reduce delivery time.

“NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is connected with major cities of South East Asia and China by regular cargo and passenger flights. This will allow to process significant volume of shipments and substantially reduce delivery time compared to the current scheme, which involves the capital aviation hub,” reported Evgeniy YANKILEVICH, the General Director of Tolmachevo Airport JSC.

“As a part of preparations for the New Year period, we have expanded the production area and decentralized the express mail flow from Moscow to Novosibirsk, ensuring delivery of the New Year's international parcels to three major districts of Russia in less time,” commented Alexander TIMOFEEV, the First Deputy Director of the Main Mail Long-Haul Centre (FSUE Russian Post affiliate).

It should be noted that MMPO at Novosibirsk airport is included in the International Registry of the Universal Postal Union, thus, allowing global postal operators to choose optimal logistics schemes for the fastest delivery of parcels to the cities of Siberia.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest transit air hub in the Asian part of Russia. The airport has two runways, providing handling services of regular cargo flights for both Russian and foreign airlines such as AirBridgeCargo, Volga-Dnepr, Cargolux, Air China Cargo, Yangtze River Express, Transaero and others. Capacity of the freight complex Tolmachevo Cargo makes up 50,000 tons per year. In 2013 it expects to handle over 35,000 tons of cargo and mail (+25%).
