OREANDA-NEWS. The report is based on stories of the people working at SCM's businesses or living in cities of our operations. This is the newest feature of the document that includes 30 stories we have combined into a cycle “HOW WE DID IT”. Ten of them are available on SCM Group sustainable development website.

HOW WE DID IT is a platform to discuss SCM's sustainable development, our actions and their impact on the environment. It is designed for the target audiences of our projects, the people who can evaluate their results. The stories tell about motivating and tapping the potential of our staff, about making their work safer, about the projects we undertake to develop local communities and thus foster their small and medium-sized businesses and make them better places for life. The stories certainly have numbers behind: amounts, indicators and volumes signalling huge work done by thousands of our employees.

“SCM is the business driven by its values. We share the values of our society, understand their challenges and find ways to address them. We try to build each business process in a way to perform well, deliver good financial results and bring benefit to people at the same time. By developing our companies we contribute to sustainable growth of Ukraine, help to strengthen the national economy and improve the standards of living of our employees, partners, suppliers and contractors,” said SCM CEO Oleg Popov in his address to readers of the sustainability report. “The numbers we had at the end of 2012 are more than solid: we invested UAH 18 billion in modernisation of our companies and our social investment exceeded UAH 7 billion. SCM Group paid about UAH 29 billion in taxes and UAH 15 billion in payroll and remuneration. The numbers speak louder than words confirming that today large businesses drive modernisation of the national economy, contribute to better infrastructure in cities and towns and facilitate development of people.”

For the first time we are going to discuss our performance in 2012, our progress in 2013 and our plans for 2014 with our stakeholders to ensure that next year SCM could do more in terms of the sustainable development. The meeting is taking place later in November in Donetsk.

The English version of the summary report will come out on our website in November as well.

We are preparing also a full version of SCM Group Sustainable Development Report 2012 designed for experts that will comply with the GRI standard. Ernst&Young is doing independent assurance of the report. The full version will come out by the end of 2013.

The report is designed with works of Ukrainian decorative master Irina Kolesnik. We did it in line with our sustainable development concept and also to support entrepreneurship development in Ukraine. Her batik decorates the cover page.
