Rostec to Repair Afghanistan’s Critical HPP
OREANDA-NEWS. Technopromexport (TPE) will perform major repairs of the hydroelectric unit of Naghlu HPP in Afghanistan.
The repair will be performed jointly with DABS, an Afghan power generation and distribution company.
According to the agreement, Technopromexport will repair and adjust major equipment of the fourth hydroelectric unit of the plant. The work period will be 4 months. Upon completion of the repairs the unit will be commissioned.
According to the TPE General Director, Sergey Topor-Gilka, the company has been cooperating with Afghanistan in implementing power projects more than for 50 years.
“The company has a vast experience in rehabilitation and upgrading of the existing power capacities, especially in the markets, which traditionally use Russian power equipment and construction standards,” Sergey Topor-Gilka said.
Since 2011 Technopromexport has repaired three units of Naghlu plant subject to the contract with the Afghan Ministry of Energy for rehabilitation of the HPP.
Naghlu HPP is a critical plant in the Afghan energy system. It generates approximately half of the power volume consumed by Kabul, the capital of the country. Naghlu capacity is 100 MW.
Since the commencement of operations in Afghanistan, Technopromexport has commissioned over 150 MW of generating capacities. In particular, TEP has been involved in construction of a co-generation plant in Mazar-e-Sharif and Puli Khumri-2 hydroelectric power plant.
Apart from that, the Russian company has erected more than 1.8 thousand km of power transmission lines.
