UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486; Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL; Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading, global aluminium producer is pleased to announce that the Chairman of RUSAL's Board of Directors, Matthias Warnig has been recognised as one the Top-25 Best Chairmen of the Board of Directors by The Independent Directors Association (IDA), Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

The nomination committee considered Board members from Russia's 150 largest companies by market capitalisation, which were included in the Expert-400 Major Companies' Rating in 2012. From this list, a group of candidates were selected for the following categories: 50 Best Independent Directors, 25 Best Chairmen of the Board of Directors and the 25 Best Heads of the Executive Office of the Board of Directors / Corporate Secretaries.

In order to be regarded as one of the Top 25 Best Chairmen of the Board of Directors the following criteria had to be met: at least 2 years' experience as an Independent Director of a Russian company (with an annual revenue of at least 1 billion roubles); an active engagement in issues such as the introduction of advanced corporate governance practices; and the recognition of the independent director's activities and qualifications by the business community.

The ratings were drawn up within the framework of the VIII National Award “Director of the Year 2013” and were verified by PwC in accordance with the appropriate methodology. A winner from each category will be announced at an Awards ceremony on 3 December 2013.

Matthias Warnig was appointed as independent, non-executive director of RUSAL's Board of Directors in June 2012. On 1 October 2012, he was elected the Chairman of the Company's Board of Directors. In his role, he has been extremely active in promoting the Company's excellence in corporate governance, supporting its development, and improving its competitive advantages.
