OREANDA-NEWS. The first nuclear power plant unit of "Kudankulam" NPP is connected to the grid at 30% of power plant capacity. The connection took place in the night of 22nd of October at 02:45 of local time. The equipment produced by Uralmashplant runs smoothly.

For the "Kudankulam" nuclear power plant being the largest project of Russian-Indian cooperation Uralmashplant supplied two polar cranes of 350+190/32 tons capacity, two gantry cranes of the same capacity, new-fuel storage facility crane of 30/5 tons capacity, two new generation МПС-В-412 fuel handling machines. Designer of above said equipment is the scientific development and production center "VNIIPTMASH" (subsidiary enterprise of the "Uralmashplant" JSC) and manufacturer is the Uralmashplant.

The plant personnel and the installation staff have a high opinion of all equipment functioning at the plant. Particularly they mention advantages of the fuel handling machines by Uralmashplant - its state-of-the-art and strict safety requirements. The polar cranes receive special praise. One of these installations operates at construction and installation activities at the second nuclear power plant unit with high amount of work-load.

Andrey Saltanov, the General Director of "Uralmashplant" JSC tells of vast experience that Company received during the project implementation, resulted in manufacture range diversification - the Company used to produce only fuel handling machines, but now in frames of the project it supplied the polar cranes and the gantry cranes. Andrey Saltanov also mentioned the international recognition of technological capabilities of the Company and high qualification of its engineers and workers, able to produce the most high-end and reliable manufactures.

The Indian partner expects to finish the works at the second nuclear power plant unit by the midyear 2014. The electrical power generated by the "Kudankulam" NPP will be supplied not only to the Tamilnadu state consumers where the plant is located, but to the whole south part of India.
