OREANDA-NEWS. ORLEN Lietuva have organized first occupational health and safety conference Safety First and invited Lithuania's largest industrial companies, Ministry of Energy, and State Labour Inspectorate to discuss safe work measures and exchanged the experience.

At the beginning of the year ORLEN Lietuva started implementation of a complex occupational health and safety (OHS) program Safety First. The main purpose of the program is to increase the occupational safety culture in the company by applying higher occupational safety standards to the employees of ORLEN Lietuva and its contractors.

More than 70 different Safety First program initiatives were implemented in the Refinery during the year, OHS procedures were revised, new employee training and motivation system introduced, active campaign of internal and external communication commenced.

'Safety at work is the purpose not only for ORLEN Lietuva, all Lithuanian industry companies are eager to achieve it. Thus the exchange of experience and information is very important when having business in the same legal environment and facing similar challenges. Cooperation with respective institutions of Lithuania will allow us to better understand each other seeking to protect the employees from accidents. Safety at work is not only a task, it is the basis for all other goals such as profit or development', - beginning the conference AB ORLEN Deputy General Director for Business Support Lietuva Arkadiusz Marcin Pawlak spoke.

AB Achema Technical Director Juozas Tunaitis, UAB NEO GROUP Quality, Environmental and Occupational Safety Director Egle Vaiciuliene gave their presentations in the first OHS conference organized in Mazeikiai.

Managers of the major chemical industry companies, representatives of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) discussed the issues of OHS activity management, motivational, organizational and technical measures applied at their companies.

Representatives of LR State Labour Inspectorate made their report on how to prevent accidents at work and occupational illnesses.
