OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has completed its complex preparation for the autumn-winter period which begins on October 27, 2013: special equipment has been prepared, buildings and airport facilities have been checked, necessary reagents have been purchased, a de-icing fluid reserve has been created. The measures taken will ensure smooth operation of the air harbor in winter conditions.

Special Equipment

Maintaining a high level of safety and ensuring flight regularity require that the airport ground handling services be prepared for the winter period. Domodedovo has more than 3,000 pieces of equipment for ground handling - it is 35 different types of specialized machines. All technical equipment is ready for being operated during in the upcoming period, including 89 units of special equipment for maintaining the airport in winter. Domodedovo car fleet is equipped with motor graders, compact public cleansing vehicles, tractors, snow blowers as well as trailed-type brushing machines effectively cleaning the runway of snow.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport has an impressive de-icing vehicle fleet including 22 deicers produced by the world's leading manufacturers. All equipment is fitted out with unique modern control systems greatly increasing the efficiency of operations.

De-icing Means

A reserve of de-icing fluid was created: airport infrastructure allows to store large amounts of de-icing fluid, and its efficient logistics system enables rapid replenishment of supplies.

Domodedovo technical complex makes it possible to apply de-icing fluid on aircraft with their engines running. Platforms for such works are built on both sides of Runway-1 giving an advantage in terms of time for the de-icing fluid protective effect, reducing its consumption and diminishing influence on the environment due to a protectant agent collection and recycling system.

Power Supply

During the preparation, Domodedovo specialists paid much attention to energy security issues - stand-by capacity has been created, power line glades are regularly monitored. When preparing for the autumn-winter period, new electrical cable lines were laid to launch additional transformer substations which ensures regular power supply of the airport. At present, construction and installation works aimed at installation of generator and boiler buildings as part of the project for building a co-generation plant.
