Borusan EnBW Enerji Lays Cornerstone for Second Wind Farm in Turkey
OREANDA-NEWS. The German-Turkish joint venture Borusan EnBW Enerji has laid the symbolic cornerstone for the construction of its next wind power project. Balabanli wind farm will comprise of 22 Siemens SWT 2.3-108 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 megawatts each and a turbine diameter of 108 meters. The plant is set to generate around 150 gigawatt hours of electricity from wind energy for approximately 43,000 households from the second half of 2014. Balabanli wind farm is located in an area of north-western Turkey rich in wind and also in close proximity to Istanbul, the industrial heart of Turkey with 15 million residents.
Borusan EnBW Enerji, which is based in Istanbul, was founded in summer 2009 as a joint venture between EnBW and the Turkish company Borusan. The joint venture aims to establish generation capacities in the years ahead in Turkey, largely in the field of renewable energies. With the Yedigol Aksu hydroelectric plant and the Bandirma wind farm, the joint venture has established an installed capacity of 111 megawatts from renewable energies to date.
Balabanli wind farm is the next project to be implemented. Borusan EnBW Enerji is also hoping to get the go-ahead for four further wind farms shortly.
