Rusatom Overseas Presented Its Prospects on Nuclear Energy Development
OREANDA-NEWS. “Rusatom Overseas sees a potential long-term cooperation opportunities for Slovak companies in nuclear energy field”, Denisa Volekova, Director of Rusatom Overseas Branch in Slovakia said on EnergoForum 2013 Conference in Vyhne. She presented on ROSATOM view on nuclear energy global development, company’s current projects in Europe with a focus on Slovakia, spoke about the VVER technology benefits in terms of safety and efficiency.
“Slovakia and other countries previously committed to build new nuclear sources remain optimistic on its development. According to ROSATOM estimates more than 200 GW of new nuclear capacity can be entered in the world up to 2030. ROSATOM potential overseas orders portfolio is estimated to be 80 units up to 2030, for which planned to purchase equipment and services in overall amount 300 billion USD. It is a good prospect for Slovak companies, which traditionally are our partners,” D. Volekova said.
During the presentation she mentioned that ROSATOM today is the first in new NPPs construction with implementing projects for the construction of 28 NPP units and 19 of them are outside of Russia. Speaking about the future company’s projects in Europe D. Volekova specified that ROSATOM is currently taking part in the Czech Republic in tender for completion of Temelin NPP. Also ROSATOM interacts closely in Finland with Fennovoima Oy, an energy company with aim to construct power unit based on Russia technology VVER-1200 at Hanhikivi site. Companies are planning to sign contract for the NPP construction by the end of 2013. ROSATOM signed last month an agreement with Rolls-Royce and Fortum companies which aims to jointly explore opportunities for construction and operation of NPPs based on VVER reactor technology in the UK.
She stressed that Slovakia and Russia are long-term partners in the nuclear sphere. Today in Slovakia there are 4 units of Russian design with VVER reactors, which generate more than half country's electricity. Russia also supplies nuclear fuel for all Slovak units. Today ROSATOM is exploring the possibility to join the Bohunice project by buying shares in the company JESS.
”For cooperation with companies in Slovakian nuclear field on already implemented and new projects ROSATOM marketing office was opened last year. The office also represents the interests Russian nuclear industry enterprises in Slovakia and is engaged into the involvement of local companies in the ROSATOM suppliers global network for projects in Russia and in other countries,” concluded D. Volekova.
