Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal Commences Full Operations
OREANDA-NEWS. Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL) announced today that the new Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal has successfully moved into full operation, providing a broad spectrum of logistics solutions for the air cargo industry.
To ensure a smooth transition for its launch customer airlines - Cathay Pacific Airways, Dragonair and Air Hong Kong - a phased approach was adopted for the opening of this HKD 5.9 billion facility, beginning in February this year. The final cutover for the entire cargo operations of the three airlines was completed in early October.
Cathay Pacific Services Limited Chief Executive Officer Algernon Yau said: "The successful completion of the transition to full operations marks a key milestone for the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal. This new air cargo facility is equipped with advanced technology and enhanced workflows, and the Just-in-Time operations will set a new service benchmark for air cargo terminal operations. We will continue to strive to enhance Hong Kong's position as the leading airfreight hub in the region, offering a new customer experience for the airfreight industry."
Cathay Pacific Director Cargo James Woodrow said: "A tremendous effort by our dedicated team has finally resulted in the new terminal moving into full operation. It took a lot of hard work and commitment to ensure a smooth transition over the past eight months. The new facility will not only enable the Cathay Pacific Group to offer tailor-made services to our own cargo customers, but it will also raise service standards within the industry to new heights."
The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, specially designed for cargo hub operations, is capable of handling 2.6 million tonnes of throughput per year, increasing Hong Kong International Airport's annual capacity by 50 per cent to 7.4 million tonnes.
