CLT to Host Seventh Annual Runway 5K Run
OREANDA-NEWS. Charlotte Douglas International Airport will host its seventh annual Runway 5K Run at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 26 at CLT.
Runners and walkers may register online now until Friday, October 25 at sportoften.com or register in person during the week of the race, October 21 – 25, at the Charlotte Running Company (1412 East Boulevard). The cost is USD30 until Friday, October 25 and USD35 on the day of the race.
Participants will be treated to a smooth, flat course and breathtaking views of the Airport's runways. This year’s special guest is Charlotte Bobcat’s point guard Kemba Walker.
A variety of activities will be on hand for children, including a bounce house, animated movie characters and face painting, as well as pieces of aircraft including a C-130 and DC-7.
Funds from the Run will go toward LIFESPAN’s Community Activity and Employment Transition Program (CAET). LIFESPAN, a nonprofit organization, assists children and adults with developmental disabilities by providing education, employment and enrichment opportunities.
More than a dozen LIFESPAN participants currently work at CLT, mainly as restroom attendants. Last year, nearly USD30,000 was raised for LIFESPAN??. The Airport has donated race proceeds to LIFESPAN since 2008. CLT’s 2012 Runway 5K Run marked a milestone, raising more than USD120,000 throughout the past five years for the local nonprofit.
This year’s Runway 5K Run sponsors are: Charlotte Douglas International Airport, US Airways, JetBlue, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Turner, 107.9 The Link, HMSHost, Wingate by Wyndham, Pteris Global (USA) Inc., Sunshine Cleaning Systems, Inc., PR Race Management, Paradies, STS Line Maintenance and Archer Western Contractors.
