OREANDA-NEWS. The Minister of Public Works, Ana Pastor and Repsol Chairman, Antonio Brufau, presided the signing of the agreement for transferring the company's operations to the new outer port in A Coruna. This agreement, signed by the Director of the Repsol refinery in A Coruna, Luis Felipe Llamas and the Chairman of the port authorities of the Galician city, Enrique Lossada, confirms Repsol’s commitment to the region and to Spanish industry.

Repsol will invest more than 120 million euros in gradually transferring its current operations of crude oil and solids (coke and sulphur) from the inland port to the new outer port. Crude oil represents more than half of the traffic generated by the company in the Coruna port, 4 million tons in 2012, about 60% of the total cargo loaded and unloaded by Repsol in A Coruna.

After the signing ceremony, Antonio Brufau highlighted that "the outer port should be a platform for industrial development in Galicia, and we hope this investment will have a knock-on effect for other industries that boost the local economy".

The investment will be used for transferring operations of crude oil and solids, the construction of a new oil pipeline that connects the A Coruna outer port to its refinery in the city and the building of a jetty for unloading bulk liquids in the aforementioned port.

The Repsol facilities in the new outer port will occupy about a 30,000 m2 plot of land, and a jetty with 20,000 m2 of water and 15,000 m2 of pipe racks. The concession has been granted for a 35-year period, with an extension option for another 17 years, as this is considered a relevant and strategic activity. The new facilities are expected to be in full operation by 2018.
