PM of Ukraine: Vegetable Prices Will Be Stable
OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2013. During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that vegetable prices would be stable, because cut even as today yield completely satisfies the internal needs of the country.
“Once again I want to stress that the yield of potato and vegetables, even in this kind of weather, which temporarily suspended the collection, provides internal needs of the country. This means that prices will be stable. The boom in the market of vegetables, including potatoes, recedes: crop exceeded demand in several times,” Mykola Azarov stressed.
The September’s leap for potato prices to some extent was due to adverse weather conditions, but it was caused most of all by intermediaries will to use the situation to their advantage.

The Prime Minister informed that the estimated total production of vegetables is at the level of 10.4 million tons in the fund consumption to 7.5 million tons, or 180 kg per person at a rate of 105 kg per year. Gross production of potato is over 21 million tons, of which consumption fund is of 6 million tons, or about 140 kg per person per year.
Mykola Azarov noted that potato and vegetables laid for storage of nearly 240 tons only for last week of relatively favorable weather. Overall, PM informed, as of October 8 there were 1.3 million tons of vegetables in storages, including potato - about one million tons. The total capacity of vegetable and potato storages is of 1.7 million tons, so, laying to storages will be continued.
