Uzbekistan Improves Quality of Service for Passengers
OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2013. Every day, from early morning to late evenings hundreds of modern vehicles - buses, trams , minibuses and metro trains ply on our capital and its suburbs, carrying a huge daily passenger flow. As an authorized body of economic management of passenger transport of the capital, "Toshshahartranshizmat " association makes necessary efforts to improve the provision of transport services.
A press conference, organized by the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport in cooperation with "Toshshahartranshizmat" association has been devoted to this issue.
At the event, Deputy Head of the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport Sh.Shovahobov and others noted that under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, a large-scale work to improve the transport sector and the progressive development of passenger service has been done.
Currently, "Toshshahartranshizmat" association includes 49 road, 6 electric transport companies, 7 companies of infrastructure, 5 service-repair centers, 4 companies for the production and supply of spare parts and materials, as well as a training center, employing about 12,000 people.
A clear timetable for 144 bus routes and 42 taxi routes with total length of 3.4 thousand kilometers, 6 tram routes has main maintained. The enterprises of the association carry an average of 1.3 million people every day.
One of the main areas of work to improve the level of service for passengers is the constant modernization and expansion of fleets. During the years of independence, the companies acquired hundreds of "Mercedes-Benz" buses, dozens of modern trams, subway cars.
Through the development of the automotive industry in our country, buses manufactured at Samarkand automobile plant took a worthy place in the transportation of passengers. Over the past six years at over 700 such buses have been purchased, using loans of commercial banks and 'Uzavtosanoatlizing " leasing company.
In 2011-2012, "Toshelektrotrans" state enterprise, part of the "Toshshahartranshizmat" association, purchased and commissioned 20 modern trams from the Czech Republic.
During the press conference, it was emphasized that transition to modern international environmental standards has reduced adverse impact of transport on the environment.
