OREANDA-NEWS. October 10, 2013. The IV Annual Conference Protecting Intellectual Property Rights” took place in Moscow. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) was represented by Deputy Head of the Legal Department Denis Gavrilov.

Attendees included the Chair of the Court on Intellectual Property Rights, Lyudmila Novoselova, representatives of legal firm and pharmaceutical companies, state corporations and federal executive bodies of the Russian Federation.

The Conference discussed in detail specifics of patent practice in Russia and outlined associated problems and new trends. The leading experts on legal protection of trademarks presented methods for protecting intellectual property rights giving real-life examples. Participants also discussed the issue of using trademarks and firm names in contextual advertising of search systems.

Denis Gavrilov gave a presentation highlighting the prospects of applying Russian antimonopoly law to intellectual property and discussed practices used in the US, Europe and Asia. The FAS representative covered an issue of unfair competition and legalizing parallel import in Russia to develop competition.

“Expanding the antimonopoly rules on intellectual property is a trend that must be accepted and developed searching for a balance between the need to ensure legal safeguard of exclusive rights and inadmissibility of abusing intellectual property rights for the purposes of unreasonable and unfair restriction of competition”, commented Deputy Head of FAS Legal Department Denis Gavrilov.
