OREANDA-NEWS. October 09, 2013. Russian Railways is offering a new service which allows children between the ages of 10 and 16 (inclusive) to travel on high-speed Sapsan trains unaccompanied by adult relatives or close friends.

Initially the service will only operate as a pilot scheme on Sapsan trains operating between Moscow - St. Petersburg - Moscow.

Tickets cost 1,600 roubles and can be booked at the personal request of the parents at service centres at Moscow's Leningrad Station and Saint Petersburg's Moscow Station, as well as at cash desks of the Express Trains Directorate, a branch of Russian Railways.

The service is only available from the initial to the final station. Booking at intermediate stations is not possible.

Booking a ticket is also only possible when buying a ticket for a child at least two days before the train's departure.

An employee from the Service Centre will accompany the child to boarding the Sapsan and meet him/her on arrival.

A Sapsan conductor accompanies the child en route.
