Rosmorport: Pilot Readings Held in Arkhangelsk
OREANDA-NEWS. October 04, 2013. In the framework of celebration of the 400th anniversary of pilotage service in Russia, on 26 September, 2013 an opening ceremony of the III Pilot Readings “Role and Importance of Arkhangelsk Pilots for Navigation Development in Moscovia, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation” was held in the Arctic Sea Institute named after V.I. Voronin, which is the oldest sea educational institution in Russia.
The Arkhangelsk Branch took an active part in the arrangement of the Pilot Readings, because pilotage is one of the paramount activites both of the branch and of FSUE “Rosmorport” in general.
Among the guests of the event were pilots’ relatives and descendants, pilot veterans, active pilots and representatives of the Arkhangelsk marine industry.
Also on that day the exhibition “Pilotage Service of Arkhangelk: Documents, Facts, Objects” was solemnly opened in the Arkhangelsk Marine Museum.
The exhibits were presented by the Russian State Navy Archive in Saint-Petersburg, State Archive of Arkhangelsk Region, Arts and Crafts Museum of the Uyma village, family archives of the pilots’ descendants.

The Arkhangelsk Branch pilotage service is one of the largest at the enterprise and operates from the first day of the branch’s work. It consists of 27 pilots of the first and second categories.
The Arkhangelsk Branch pilots provie pilotage services in the seaports of Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar and Onega. They also act as counsellors to ship masters in Sabetta Seaport, which is under construction, and in the future will provide all types of pilotages in the new seaport.
Within the 9 months of 2013 the Arkhangelsk Branch pilots performed almost 1800 pilotage operations and provided safe calls and exits of vessels to the seaports of the Arkhangelsk Region and the Nenets Autunomous Area.
