OREANDA-NEWS. October 03, 2013. Olivier M.J. Crepin-Leblond,  Chair of ALAC, the At Large Advisory Committee, has highly evaluated achievements of Ukraine in the direction of development of Internet space.

He announced during a meeting with the head of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization of Ukraine Volodymyr Semynozhenko which took place at the House of Government today.

“It is an extremely significant political event that Ukraine has obtained the national public Cyrillic domain of top level .УКР,” Olivier M.J. Crepin-Leblond emphasized.

He added that he personally follows the progress of Ukraine in this issue, that’s why he is pleased to stress perseverance and dedication of the work of Government in the development of Internet space.

“I am satisfied with the present level of cooperation and the current work that is going on in the direction of integration into the global Internet. I follow how this process rolls out,” Chair of ALAC stressed.

In turn the head of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization briefed his interlocutor on the steps made by the Government in the direction of a broad introduction of .УКР Cyrillic domain. He informed it was rather long and technologically difficult process. Presently, a period of top priority registration is going on, it will last for 4 months and envisages several stages. In the first month state authorities will be registered, afterwards – local self-government bodies, geographical names, owners of trademarks, other objects of intellectual property and certain categories of applicants. In the aftermath, the registration in the national domain will become open for all the rest. In the long run Ukrainians will also receive an opportunity to use Cyrillic e-mail addresses.

Besides, according to the head of the State Agency for Science, Innovations and Informatization, the Government continues tight cooperation with NGOs in order to find solutions to the mentioned issues on the local level, including administering of addresses into global Internet.
