OREANDA-NEWS. October 02, 2013. Ukraine and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) already on this week will sign an agreement to provide our country a status of an associate member of CERN. This was started by a chairman of the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization Vladimir Seminozhenko.

"The process of preparations for the signing of bilateral documents has expired. We already can state the transition of our cooperation to a new level. All the nuances have been almost settled that open the way for the signing of the Association Agreement on Ukraine’s membership in the European Organization for Nuclear Research. It is expected that this step will be formally done this week," Volodymyr Semynozhenko said.

The Chairman of the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization noted that cooperation between Ukraine and CERN lasts for 20 years; more than 40 local scientists are involved in joint research. "We have always been active participants of researches of CERN, and this cooperation is very effective," Volodymyr Semynozhenko stressed.

He noted that the Agreement will strengthen the long-term partnership towards consolidating efforts to further expand the European Research Area and the implementation of the European strategy for particle physics research. Associate membership in CERN will give Ukraine the opportunity to participate in meetings of the Council of CERN with the right of partial decision-making in the field of science policy.
