OREANDA-NEWS. October 02, 2013. The Government continues to hear reports of leaders of the regions about the state of implementation of tasks and measures included into the State program of activization of the economic development in agro-industrial complex, holding of spring field works and providing the population with vegetables, potatoes, fruit and also concerning prices for the mentioned foodstuffs in the regions.

Today, during the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of Ukraine the members of the Government have heard the reports of heads of Zakarpattya, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions and also Minister of Agro-industrial Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhniuk.

On the outcomes of the discussion Mykola Azarov drew attention of the chiefs of regions that it was necessary to work more actively targeting providing the population with sufficient amount of basic foodstuffs at available prices and to use more effectively the reserves of storages for preserving of gathered yield. 

During the meeting it was emphasized that presently the regions don’t use maximally this mechanism: existing vegetable, fruit and potato storages remain half-empty in the regions. This situation has to be corrected by the regions during the month.

“For the leaders of the regions and Ukrainian cities we give a commission to take measures in order to provide the population with vegetables. People must have an opportunity to buy products of this year’s harvest at normal prices,” the Premier stressed.

He once and again repeated it was significant to hold food fairs in the regions. “It is not a petty question – it is a significant issue. So, if one needs help in that – just address. There have to be enough such areas so that our citizens could get in supplies for winter,” Mykola Azarov added. 

In this context there is needed maximal interaction with law enforcement bodies, tax office, prosecutor’s office so that to make impossible frauds of middlemen. 

The Head of Government stressed that the agriculture is the branch of national economy which needs peculiar and constant attention on the part of leadership of the Government. “Price stability and work in providing the market with basic foodstuff are issues of macroeconomic stability of the country. That’s why in this matter there cannot just be any trivial issues. I start my working day with this issue and recommend it to all leaders of the regions,” Mykola Azarov said.
