OREANDA-NEWS. October 01, 2013. The ICT Summit 2013 annual national session on information and communication technologies has taken place in Tashkent.

The annual national assembly in information and communication technologies is the most important event of the InfoCOM 2013 ICT Week and a consequence of successful reforms on this front.

Chairman of the State Committee for Communications, Information and Telecommunications Technologies H.Mirzahidov, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber Committee for Information and Communication Technologies A.Jurabaev and other speakers at the event noted that the wide-ranging reforms being spearheaded in our country under the leadership of President Islam Karimov in the information area have facilitated the further promotion and extensive introduction of ICT in all walks of economy and social sphere. The adoption of the Integrated Program of Development of the National Information and Communications System of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2013-2020, approved by a relevant resolution of President Islam Karimov on 27 June 2013, has served as a vital engine for the dynamic advancement of information resources, systems and networks of Uzbekistan.

The ICT convention has been organized by the Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber Committee for Information and Communication Technologies, the Information Analytical Department for Information Systems and Telecommunications of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the State Committee for Communications, Information and Telecommunications Technologies, the Association of Information Technologies Enterprises and Organizations of Uzbekistan as well as the CIB GROUP company.

The ICT meeting has been stimulating a mounting interest fr om one year to another by both national and international specialists. Wh ereas the get-together used to attract some 200 delegates in the initial years of its conception, this year’s occasion – the ICT Summit 2013 – has gathered in excess of 600 specialists from Uzbekistan and abroad. Representatives from South Korea, Germany, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other countries took part in this event as experts.

The convention has included some 60 reports in four topical dimensions such as “ICT in Public Sector”, “Technologies, Innovations and Solutions”, “The Internet and Information Resources” and “Information-Library Technologies”. The general and panel sessions served as platforms for leading specialists in the high technologies market, representatives of government agencies, public and international organizations, and heads of domestic and foreign IT companies to discuss the pressing issues in the introduction of ICT in diverse areas of the society’s life. Also addressed at the event were the strategy and evolution of the sector, technologies and the infrastructure, applications and solutions.

“The multi-panel format of the summit has allowed the participants to discuss a variety of current issues in the ICT sphere,” says O.Umarov, head of department for information and communication technologies of the State Committee for Communications, Information and Telecommunications Technologies. “A special emphasis was placed on the discussion of developments in the national software market. In this respect, vital has been the Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan “On Measures to Further Reinforce the Stimuli for Domestic Software Engineers” signed on 20 September 2013, because the support for software creation will help boost the entire area of the ICT.”

Specialists from South Korea addressed the occasion participants with reports on the achievements their country has been making in the implementation of ICT in the public sector.
“We have been working in Uzbekistan across a whole range of projects, particularly on the establishment of electronic government system,” the UN Resident Coordinator for Uzbekistan Stefan Priesner suggests. “In this regard, with assistance from the joint project of the UNDP and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan entitled ‘Local Governance Support: Participation and Partnership’, the system of electronic document circulation, e-Hujjat, has been modernized. The system has been introduced as a pilot project in Jizzakh and Namangan regions, while it is anticipated to be commissioned in the future across the entire Uzbekistan. We intend to keep partnering on this front.”

The convention has come to be a platform that allows the specialists, government agencies and international institutions, as well as the private sector to analyze the state of affairs in the ICT market, get familiar with latest achievements in the sphere, find new stable and reliable partners, and draw additional investment resources for the further introduction of ICT throughout the nation.
