OREANDA-NEWS. October 01, 2013. VTB Bank supported a lecture by Nobel Prize winner Thomas Sargent at St Petersburg State University (SPbSU) Graduate School of Management on 25 September 2013. Thomas Sargent and Christopher Sims were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2011 for their “empirical research on cause and effect in the macroeconomy.”

One of the world’s most respected and cited economists, Thomas Sargent is a Professor of Economics at New York University. Previously he taught at Harvard, Stanford, Pennsylvania, Berkley and Princeton. Thomas Sargent’s lecture at the SPbSU Graduate School of Management, “Euro Crisis: Sources and Implications Beyond Europe”, was the fourth in a series of lectures by leading foreign economists at Russian universities.

The first three were delivered by Nobel Prize winners Robert Aumann and Dale Mortensen and prominent US economist Bradford DeLong at the SPbSU Graduate School of Management and MGIMO in Moscow. “VTB Bank provides considerable support to promoting business education in Russia,” said Andrey Kostin, President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank.

“As a dean of the SPbSU Graduate School of Management and the head of one of Russia’s largest banks, I consider it very important that students have the opportunity to hear the latest economic ideas and theories. Such lectures will further strengthen the prestige of the SPbSU Graduate School of Management among school leavers and the expert community.”
