Iraq Awards USD348 mn in Oil Contracts to China, Swiss
OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2013. Iraq has awarded hundreds of millions of dollars worth of contracts to companies from China and Switzerland.
Industry sources said the Oil Ministry awarded USD 348 million worth of contracts to two firms — from China and one from Switzerland. They said the firms were assigned to support the oil fields in Iraq’s southern province of Maysan.
The Swiss-based Weatherford won two drilling contracts worth nearly \\$180 million.
A third contract of USD 96.7 million was awarded to China’s Bohai for a field developed by the China National Offshore Oil Corp.
China National’s subsidiary won the final contract, reported at USD 73.8 million. The Maysan oil fields have been disputed by neighboring Iran, which invaded the province in 2009.
