OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2013. Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, has opened a long-distance railway station at Novokuznetsk station at West- Siberian Railways. The ceremony was also attended by Tselko Alexander, Vice-President of Russian Railways, Anatoly Reger, head of West Siberian Railways, and Valentin Mazikin, First Deputy Governor of the Kemerovo Region.

In his speech, Yakunin said that "on a national scale, this is a small project, but there should be as many such projects as possible. We have to work efficiently so that you, our clients and customers, trust us."

Russian Railways has invested more than 1.3 billion roubles in the reconstruction of the long-distance railway station in Novokuznetsk.

The reconstruction has led to major changes in the station's external and internal appearance. On the first floor there a concourse and ticket hall, a de luxe waiting room with a service centre, a buffet, restaurant, medical station and a police duty room. There is also a waiting room on the second floor.

To increase passenger comfort and convenience in the train station building, escalators and lifts have been installed, including in the underground passage for fast access to the platforms. The main entrances to the building are equipped with ramps, and for people with limited mobility, there is a separate entrance with automatic doors from the city.

The station has a total area of 4,378 square metres and is designed to handle 1,500 passengers simultaneously.
