OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2013. Modernization of RP-71 distribution substation at Kola MMC (subsidiary of MMC Norilsk Nickel) is nearing completion.

This is the main substation in the power supply scheme of the production site in Monchegorsk, for this reason the Company decided to replace dated RU-10kW distributor with a new switchgear system. To improve reliability of each individual section of the new mechanism input was matched to individual power consumers. The section includes cells and 42 vacuum circuit breakers.

Three out of four sections (first, third and fourth) of the new switchgear system are already commissioned at  RP-71 distribution substation. Cell installation was completed at the second section and preparations for commissioning works are currently underway.

Modernization of the substation ensures stable power supply to the key production facilities of Kola MMC – hydrometallurgical section of nickel electrolysis shop, third sintering line of the refining shop, converter matte separation section, air supply station No.2 and Nitrogen-Oxygen station. It is planned to complete reconstruction by the end of this year. The project cost is expected to total approximately RUB 100 mil.
