Duke Energy Foundation Gives USD 75K for Disaster Preparedness
OREANDA-NEWS. Duke Energy Foundation today announced a USD 75,000 grant to the American Red Cross Triangle Chapter for disaster preparedness projects.
The funds will provide disaster preparedness outreach to high-risk, vulnerable communities throughout the Triangle-area. The outreach initiative includes education materials and water-resistant emergency kits that instruct recipients on stocking the kit and contacting Duke Energy in case of a power outage.
“Our most economically vulnerable communities are often those most impacted by a disaster,” said Paul Newton, Duke Energy’s state president – North Carolina. “We are glad to be part of preparing our communities for a quick recovery in response to terrible events.”
“It is a part of our mission not only to respond to disasters, but also to teach and inform people to be prepared for disasters,” said Barry Porter, regional CEO for the American Red Cross Triangle Region. “We work to ensure that each member of our community receives adequate information to prepare. The ‘Be Ready’ program with Duke Energy is critical to the success of the community’s efforts to prepare for disasters that may affect one family or hundreds of people at any moment.”
