OREANDA-NEWS. As part of its Distribution Network Augmentation Program, Tata Power Delhi Distribution, a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, today commissioned a 33 kV grid substation at Wazirpur, New Delhi. It is a double bus bar indoor gas insulated switchgear (GIS) grid substation with high efficiency levels, and adheres to the highest safety standards.

The grid substation will provide an additional, 200 MVA, reliable power source to the Wazirpur Industrial Area, Trinagar, Ashok Vihar, Rampura and Shahazada Bagh areas, benefiting approximately 2 lakh existing and new customers. Earlier, these areas were primarily fed from the 220 kV Shalimar Bagh grid. It has incoming supply from two 100 MVA power transformers from the adjacent DTL grid and two interconnectors with the existing 33 kV Wazirpur-2 grid. The grid has ten 33 kV outgoing feeders and will be remote operated from TPDDL’s state-of- the-art supervisory controlled and data acquisition center. The grid has been built at a total cost of Rs11 crore.

The grid substation was dedicated to TPDDL consumers by Sheila Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi, in the presence of Hari Shanker Gupta, MLA of Wazirpur.

Dedicating the grid substation to TPDDL consumers, Ms Dikshit said, “This is the third major grid substation commissioned by TPDDL this month. Like the previous ones, this one is also equipped with next-generation power distribution technology. I firmly believe, such steps by TPDDL towards network augmentation will go a long way in providing reliable and quality power supply to the people of Delhi. I congratulate them for their efforts and wish them many more success in the days ahead.”

Addressing the gathering, Mr Gupta said, “TPDDL’s efforts towards network augmentation are commendable. They have strategically strengthened their network in the key areas impacting as many customers as possible. I could see these initiatives as ‘future preparedness’ considering the ever-growing demand of power in Delhi.”

Speaking at the function, Praveer Sinha, CEO & ED, TPDDL, said, “We are using the best of distribution technology to provide world-class service to the consumers of Delhi. The new grid is in line with our focus towards providing N-1 power supply to our customers, meaning a technical problem or overloading at one place should not affect supply in other areas. We firmly believe that regular network augmentation initiatives not only make the network robust but also prepare it for unforeseen eventualities.”
