Belarus Forks out USD 1.68bn to Pay Back IMF Standby Loan
OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus has transferred USD 1.4 billion to repay the principal debt on the IMF stand-by program, as well as USD 280 million in interest and other payments. Belarus still has to pay another USD 2 billion on the principal debt. The money will be transferred every quarter by the end of 2015.
Chairwoman of the Board of the National Bank of the Belarus (NBB) Nadezhda Yermakova made a statement to this effect at an online conference held by Belta on Wednesday.
“The IMF welcomes a number of measures to secure macroeconomic stability in Belarus. It reiterates that the country is solvent. At the same time, the IMF’s assessment of individual aspects of the current economic policy and the 2013 projections are still reserved,” Yermakova said.
Besides, Belarus has qualified for receiving the sixth tranche of the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund’s standby credit, Yermakova informed.
