OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2013. Olexandr Vilkul has opened 17th International Wheelset Congress in Kyiv. This is one of the world’s leading events in the rail industry.

We are ready to offer investors the most flexible approach to the forms and mechanisms of such cooperation. We are open to dialogue. Congress opens this opportunity," vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said.

Ukraine is a party in several international projects, like a Piggyback VIKING Train joint project of Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Belarusian Railways, which greatly improves the efficiency and volume of containerized cargo.

"It is also thanks to the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank in Ukraine the construction of a Beskid double track tunnel begins," Olexandr Vilkul said.

Other promising project is a Wide Track to Vienna project through which tens of millions of tons of containerized cargo from Asia-Pacific region will be able to quickly, without overloading wagons on the other gauges, to deliver through Ukraine to central Europe.

Olexandr Vilkul noted that currently a project to improve the efficiency of railways is being implemented.

"Ukraine is a country with a huge transit potential. Here are four of the ten international transport corridors of Europe-Asia. The country ranks fourth place in terms of freight traffic on the Eurasian continent," vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said.
