OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2013. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov calls the Russian Federation, as an exporter of natural gas, and the European Union as a consumer determine the volume of gas that transported Ukrainian gas transportation system.
This was started by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov at the X Annual Yalta conference.
Prime Minister said that pumping hydrocarbons to Europe by our GTS has decreased in recent years. According to him, the domestic GTS works on 60% of its capacity. Thus Mykola Azarov noted that support its operation is very costly for Ukraine.
"I ask the representatives of the European Commission: why Ukraine should carry such huge expenses? Maybe we will make a decision and preserve two branches of the GTS and leave 50 billion cubic meters that is enough for us. Let's make decisions for the future. If Europe and Russia needs the system let's say this. If you do not need it let's also take appropriate decision. Ukraine can not carry such huge costs itself," Prime Minister of Ukraine said.
