Russian Company Supplies Pipes for Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline
OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2013. Izhora Pipe Plant Closed Joint-Stock Company, belonging to Severstal company and producing large-diameter pipes, completed the shipment for the Central Asia-China gas pipeline, the company said.
"The company supplied more than 50,000 tons of 1,219 mm pipes with internal and external anti-corrosion coating from January to August 2013," a statement said.
MOODY International controls the production, testing and shipment.
Severstal Russian Steel division head Sergey Toropov said that the participation in this project enabled the company to expand the product range.
Central Asia -China gas pipeline was commissioned in 2009 to transport Turkmen gas to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The operations are underway to lay the third line of the gas pipeline. The total design capacity of three lines should reach 40 billion cubic meters of gas.
An agreement on laying the fourth line was reached during the recent talks between China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Turkmenistan. It will pass through Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to export additional 25 billion cubic meters of gas.
Severstal is one of the world's biggest vertically integrated steel and mining companies with assets in Russia and the U.S, as well as Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, Italy, Liberia. The company has also investments in Brazil.
