Realization of Ukrainian-German Nuclear Project Comes to End
OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2013. On the territory of Izotop with participation of Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Christoph Weil there took place presentation of a project “German-Ukrainian cooperation in protection of nuclear materials in the framework of G8 Global partnership against the spread of weapon and materials of mass destruction” Moreover, there were participating in the event representatives of the State Inspection of nuclear regulation of Ukraine.
The project is directed to strengthening of physical protection, modernization and re-equipment of a transportation and storage complex of Ukrainian state industrial enterprise Izotop pursuant to modern safety requirements. In addition, there has been installed a “hot” camera on the enterprise which will afford to reduce the risks of accidental exposure of unauthorized persons and commitment of illegal acts in the process of transporting of mercury materials.
“Realization of the project has proved tight cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the field of nuclear-technical safety and radiation protection. Today we are completing successfully one of the strategic projects against proliferation of nuclear materials which is extremely important for the safety of our country. The Government of Ukraine will further pay close attention to storing of dangerous substances on the territory of the country,” Minister of Industrial Policy Mykhaylo Korolenko said.
The project was realized with financial support of the Government of Federative Republic of Germany pursuant to the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Germany of December 29, 2009.
