NTT Communications and JBA’s SDN Project Wins Innovation Award

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the data, cloud and international communications business within Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT Corporation, announced that Nationwide SDN for Uncompressed HDTV in Japan, which was developed by NTT Com and provided to commercial television stations in Japan by the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association (JBA), received the Innovation Award in Content Delivery at IBC 2013, an influential broadcasting industry event held on September 15.
IBC is one of the world’s largest annual trade shows for the broadcasting industry, attracting over 1,400 suppliers and 50,000 participants from more than 160 countries. It has 45 years of history showcasing state-of-the-art electronic media technology and providing a forum to discuss developments shaping the industry.
This solution enables stable transmission of uncompressed high-definition video images between the 128 members of the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association via a large-capacity and highly reliable network. By using software-defined networking (SDN) technology, it offers simplified functionality to broadcasters by enabling automatic reflection of setting changes, such as the bandwidth requirements of each station according to their program schedule. By centrally managing the network, the technology flexibly and efficiently manages traffic to ensure the flawless and timely transmission of vast amounts of data between stations.
