Arena Sports Complex Built by Stroytransgaz SC Opened
OREANDA-NEWS. Arena Sports Complex, the general contractor for construction of which was Stroytransgaz Group (STG), was opened in St. Petersburg.
The opening ceremony on September 11 was attended by Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council; Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg; Vitaly Mutko, Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation; Gennady Timchenko, owner of the Volga Group; Vadim Gurinov, CEO of PJSC STG; representatives of the St. Petersburg Administration, members of the Board of Directors and of the Management Board of PJSC STG, and other officials.
The construction of the sports complex including its infrastructure was performed by the order of NGO Foundation for the Support and Development of BC Spartak and was launched in 2010. The facility includes the main stadium building with its total area of 22 thousand sq m with the arena accommodating 7,000 spectators; the pool is 180 sq m; the fitness room is 1.3 thousand sq m; there is a hotel of 27 rooms and a restaurant. The sports complex is the home arena of the basketball club Spartak. For this reason the complex has parquet made of Canadian maple which is used in the arenas where many of the NBA clubs play. Arena SC is capable of handling large-scale international competitions in different sports. In October, it will host the Martial Arts World Games. The sports complex is also intended for competitions among people with disabilities.
In addition to the sports, the arena can host concerts, circus performances, theatrical shows, exhibitions, conferences, business events of various kinds.
The complex is located in a park on the shore of the Finsky Bay at the tip of the Krestovsky Island where currently a sports area is being organized.
