OREANDA-NEWS. On 19 September 2013, Lebedinsky GOK (part of Metalloinvest group) will host the first “HBI Application in Steelmaking: Technology, Financing and Markets” conference. Metal Supply and Sale magazine is the event's information partner.

Top managers and leading specialists from CIS steelmaking companies, as well as Russian and international experts in steelmaking technology, financing, operations and market analysis, will attend the conference.

The participants will discuss issues related to evaluation of HBI's metallurgical properties, specifics of steelmaking using this metallised material, financial aspects of HBI application and steelmaking markets trends.

HBI is a high-quality substitute for pig iron and scrap with a higher purity of chemical composition and Fe content. Demand for this material is growing due to increasing shortages of scrap and replacement of outdated facilities by steel producers with electric arc furnaces. HBI allows to decrease dependence on scrap, in particular on high-quality scrap, optimise components supply processes and expand the range of steel grades produced.

Plants of Metalloinvest company are among the leaders of direct reduced iron production (HBI and metallised pellets) both in Russia and globally. They have extensive experience in using this type of material in steelmaking.
